1995 - Silver and Banqueting in Malta

'Silver and Banqueting in Malta' was one of two publications produced in connection with the exhibition Silver of Malta.

The book is divided into three parts. The first section includes an interesting study of the use of silver objets d'art as used during the delightful social gathering of banqueting, throughout the centuries. Silver is here examined in a multitude of ways; through paintings, documents and also traditional functions practiced in the Maltese Islands. This section also provides the reader with an in-depth analysis of the major practicing silversmith's working on the island and also an essay on the new assay-marks.

The second part pays homage to the memory of Chev. Victor Fredrick Denaro (1896-1982), the scholar who pioneered the study of antique Maltese silver. The final part gives a historical background to the exhibition Venue at the Grand Masters Palace, Valletta and highlights the " Laws, Regulations, Publications and Documents relating to the Manufacture of Gold and Silver Articles in Malta".

Contributors to the publication are: Mark Micallef, Pamela Willis, Rosemary Ransome - Wallis, Giovanni Bonello, Alfred Zahra de Domenico, Albert Ganado, Jimmy Farrugia, Adrian Strickland, Charles Oman, John Azzopardi.
