Silver and Banqueting in Malta was one of two publications produced in connection with the exhibition The Silver of Malta. The book is divided into three parts, with the first section including an interesting study of the use of silver objets d'art as used in banquets throughout the centuries. Silver is here also examined in a multitude of ways; through paintings, documents and also traditional functions practised in the Maltese Islands. This section also provides the reader with an in-depth analysis of the silversmiths working on the island, as well as an essay on the new assay marks.
The second part of this book pays homage to the memory of Chev Victor Fredrick Denaro (1896-1982), the scholar who pioneered the study of antique Maltese silver. This section also gives a historical background of the exhibition venue, the Palace of the Grand Masters in Valletta.
