Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti is launching a writing competition with the aim of promoting Maltese culture and history among young people. The competition is open to all 4th and 5th Formers attending secondary schools.
Entrants are to submit an essay of not less than 350 and not more than 800 words on one of the following topics:
1. A historical building on the Maltese Islands.
2. Your favourite work of art in the Maltese Islands.
3. If you were to live in another era in history, which would it be and why?
Students are encouraged to be creative and express their own ideas. Plagiarized entries will be automatically disqualified.
Entries to the competition are to be submitted through the respective schools. Essays can be either in Maltese or English. Each school can submit a maximum of six essays, which should include at least one in each language. Apart from the name of the school, each entry should include the name of the student, date of birth, and class. Entries are to be submitted in digital form to: publishing@patrimonju.org.
The writer of the best entry will receive a prize in the form of FPM publications as well as the opportunity to spend a day at Palazzo Falson Historic House Museum in Mdina, which will give an insight into the day-to-day operations of a museum. The winner and their respective class will also benefit from a free guided tour of the same museum. The winning school will also receive FPM publications for the school library. The winning entry will be posted on Fondazzjoni Patrimonju Malti’s website and Facebook page.
The closing date for the submission of entries is Monday, 16th January 2017. The winners will be announced towards the end of February 2017.
